A message from NJFC president Brad O’Brien:

As we wait to find out the impact of the latest Victorian lockdown on the remainder of our season, the committee is also turning its attention to season end and planning for season 2022.

To close out season 2021, we are planning to reschedule team photos, presentation day and the annual general meeting and will advise of those dates shortly.

COMMITTEE VACANCIES

As indicated previously, several committee positions will be vacated at the completion of this season. These include:

  • President (Brad O’Brien)
  • Football Operations (Kevin Tymensen)
  • Auskick Coordinator (Sarah Knight)
  • General Committee (Nikki O’Brien)

We are fortunate to have a strong committee, with around 16 people (the envy of many other sporting clubs) all playing a part. However for several of our wonderful long-serving members, the time has come to hand over the baton.

At a personal level, after four years as president, one as vice-president and two as merch co-ordinator, now is absolutely the right time to be stepping down.

I must stress how immensely I have enjoyed contributing to NJFC and the ongoing improvements we have made as club. It has been fulfilling, rewarding and of course challenging at times – but to see the smiles on the faces of children and parents alike week in and week out has me retiring with great satisfaction and pride.

I would also like to call out the contribution of my fellow retiring committee members Kevin TymensenNikki O’Brien and Sarah Knight.

For many years they have been powerhouses in their areas of responsibility and contributed to the club in so many ways, and have thoroughly earned their retirement from official duties. Like me, they will no doubt still be around the club and pitching in one way or another.

That said, it is now time to focus on committee succession. We have structured the committee in a way that executes succession planning and the introduction of new committee members in a supportive and organised fashion. The incumbent committee members will assist and support their successors to ensure a smooth transition.

WHY VOLUNTEER ON THE NJFC COMMITTEE?

Volunteers, particularly those who take up committee positions, are the lifeline of the club. Without them, our children wouldn’t get on the field every week and ultimately we would not have a club.

Therefore the willingness of parents to take the opportunity to join our committee is critical to our club’s future. Whatever background or experience you may have, everyone has something they can contribute.

So I would strongly encourage you to put your hand up to play a role in the future of children’s football. It is a great way to meet a broader cross-section of families and to contribute to the ongoing running and improvement of NJFC.

It is critical that these official roles be filled at the AGM in October as without this happening in an organised fashion, season 2022 will be impacted.

But please, don’t wait until the AGM to talk to me or any of the other committee members about these opportunities. Get in touch now so we can answer any queries and talk you through the process.

It is time for the next generation of committee members to come through. Having been a part of it for more than seven years I couldn’t be more of an advocate for getting involved and playing your role!
