UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Saturday March 21

Firstly, I trust everyone one is as well as can be given the current circumstances. The developing situation with Covid-19 continues to have a huge impact across many aspects of life and I want to ensure that as a community, our number one priority is the health and wellbeing of our Players, Coaches, Volunteers, Committee and Family members.

The 2020 junior football program is also impacted with the season commencement remaining suspended in line with EFNL and AFL recommendations. This includes the holding off on training and other club activities until further advised. Whilst a 2nd of May starting date was originally communicated, this has been updated with the revised POTENTIAL starting date now being the 31st of May, with no dates for team training / activities recommencement scheduled.

This situation continues to change, however the EFNL will be having their next board meeting on the 14th of April, in which we will get a more firm commitment and understanding.

For further information and insights please see the below links to the AFL Information and FAQ pages:

Notwithstanding the disruption and distraction, the NJFC Committee continue with the season preparations, all in the hope that the football planets align and we are fortunate enough to get a season underway later in the year. If and when this unfolds we will ensure we are fully prepared and ready to launch.

From a player perspective, our Coaches are very conscious of the excellent pre-season and fitness work that has been done to date, and are keen for this preparation to not “fall away”. With this in mind,

Footy Operation’s and Coaches will be communicating shortly with suggestions and tips to continue to build on fitness and skill levels to ensure our readiness.

More holistically, whilst uncertainty currently prevails, as a football club we will continue to administer and manage the club in preparation for season 2020, whenever that may be.

On behalf of the committee, thank you for your understanding and ongoing support of NJFC.

UPDATE ON COVID-19 – Tuesday March 17

Following a meeting of the Six Senior Metropolitan Community Leagues today, including the Essendon District FL, Eastern FNL, Northern FNL, Southern FNL, VAFA and Western Region FL, please refer to the following statement:

The decision has been made to manage the COVID-19 issue for community football, netball and umpiring with a united, consistent and staged approach.

A collective decision has been made to postpone all Community Senior and Junior football and Netball competitions until the weekend of Saturday, May 2, 2020.

All Leagues have agreed to suspend practice matches and training effective immediately.

The Leagues will re-convene on Tuesday, April 14 to review and/or confirm this commencement date, subject to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision has been reached with consideration to consistency, League and Club Sustainability and the Health and Welfare of our players, officials, volunteers, spectator and umpires.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with this matter.

The EFNL Board will formally meet Wednesday to discuss and approve the plan considering all the information available.

To our Norwood Junior Football families,

Please see below the EFNL (Eastern Football Netball League) update on the COVID-19 Virus and its impact on the upcoming football season.  This update is as of Monday March 16:

With the spread of COVID-19 increasing across Victoria, the Eastern Football Netball League has made the decision to IMMEDIATELY SUSPEND all training, practice matches and events across the entire Competition until further notice.

The safety and welfare of our players, volunteers, officials and their families are our number one priority.

We will provide further updates to Club Executives later this week once the following key meetings have taken place;

  • AFL and League CEO meeting Tuesday
  • EFNL Board meeting Wednesday night

The EFNL’s updates are available in full here – https://efnl.org.au/efnl-statement-covid-19/

Rightly so, the Committee of the Norwood Junior Football Club are fully supportive of this decision.  This is therefore also the case for our Junior competition and is effective immediately.

We will continue to provide updates as they come to hand.

If anyone has any questions in the interim, please do not hesitate to give me a call on 0488 998 858.
